DEVICES AND FILM SCHOOL
Shoreham Fort could have been the Hollywood of our time, with some of the first full length films being made in the windless back drop of the fort. To honour this, the design of a film school was to come out of 'film and fort' inspired device. A 1:1 device that would encapsulate the essence of the fort in one moment. However interactive we were with the site would have a later effect on how our film school would deal with the issue of grade-listed foundations.
Our interactive camera tracking device would take images along the new handrail at the top of the fort, powered by the user through a pedal. It would crawl along the handrail and take pictures of the ground where some of the earliest films were made, a different perspective than the cameras had then. This transcended into my design, with the intersecting views from the handrail view points creating shapes that would lead to the different functions of the film school. By having the device interact lightly with the site, the film school became raised blocks of glass, with cantilevered 1st floor concrete slabs.
